Women's Newsboy & Breton Caps
Women's newsboy caps and Breton caps handmade in Ukraine — 8-panel baker boy caps in wool, cashmere and cotton, a cashmere Breton with a lacquered visor, and light linen styles for summer. Sizes 55–61 cm.
The Newsboy Cap, Made for Women
The newsboy cap started as workwear — strictly functional, strictly male. Somewhere along the way it crossed over, and now it's one of the few hats that works equally well dressed up or dressed down. Over a long coat in November, with jeans and a striped top in April, with a midi dress in July.
Our workshop in Ukraine makes them by hand using the same eight-panel construction that's been around for over a century: each section cut separately and stitched to meet at a button on the crown. What changes is the material — and that's what decides when you'll wear it.
Wool, Cashmere and Cotton
Wool newsboy cap — structured, warm and the most practical for autumn and winter. Holds its shape in wind and handles daily on-and-off. Black, navy and royal blue.
Cashmere newsboy cap — noticeably softer and lighter, with a smoother drape. The more elevated choice for a coat and a turtleneck. Black and dark grey.
Cotton newsboy cap — breathable and easy to care for, the cap for spring, early autumn and cool summer evenings. Black, grey, cappuccino and cocoa brown.
Linen Breton caps — the lightest of all, in more than a dozen summer colors. See them all in women's summer caps.
Newsboy, Baker Boy or Breton?
Newsboy and baker boy are two names for the same cap: eight panels, a full rounded crown, a short brim and a button on top. Relaxed and a little vintage.
The Breton cap has a similar crown but a straighter, level brim and a flatter profile — neater and more formal. Our black cashmere Breton with a lacquered visor is the dressiest cap in the collection: it belongs with a wool coat, not a sweatshirt.

Choosing a Color
Start with your coat. With dark outerwear — black, charcoal, navy — a black or dark grey cap keeps the look calm. Cappuccino and grey work with almost any coat and add a little contrast. Cocoa brown suits camel, beige and earth tones. Navy and royal blue are the bolder choice: navy is quiet and smart, royal blue is a real accent.
Fit and Sizing
Measure around your head just above the ears and across the forehead. These caps have no internal adjuster, so an accurate measurement matters. If you're between sizes, go up.

Women's Newsboy Caps — Questions
What is the difference between a baker boy hat, a newsboy cap and a Breton cap?
Baker boy and newsboy are the same cap: eight panels, a full rounded crown and a button on top — relaxed and vintage. A Breton cap has a similar crown but a straighter, level brim and a flatter profile, so it looks neater and more formal. The newsboy works with casual outfits; the Breton pairs better with coats and tailored looks.
Wool or cashmere — which is better for a women's winter newsboy cap?
Wool is the better everyday cap: it handles commuting and taking the cap on and off all day without special care. Cashmere is softer and feels more elevated, but it pills faster with friction and needs professional cleaning. Warmth is similar. For daily city wear, wool; for a dressier piece you'll treat carefully, cashmere.
What does 8-panel construction mean?
The crown is made from eight wedge-shaped pieces that meet at a button on top. That gives a fuller, rounder crown than a simple two-piece cap and spreads tension evenly, so the cap keeps its shape through a whole season instead of flattening in one spot.
What size women's newsboy cap do I need?
Measure around your head just above the ears. Most women measure 55–59 cm; the most common sizes here are M (58 cm) and L (59 cm). These caps have no internal adjuster, so go by the tape measure — clothing size doesn't convert to hat size.
Which color should I choose for my first newsboy cap?
Match it to your main coat. With dark outerwear, choose black or dark grey. For a little contrast with almost any coat, grey or cappuccino. If you're unsure, black wool or grey cotton covers the widest range of outfits.
How long does a newsboy cap last — cotton, wool or cashmere?
Cotton is the shortest-lived under daily wear — around 2–4 seasons before the crown softens — but it's the easiest to wash. Wool lasts 5–8 years with seasonal brushing. Cashmere can last even longer with careful handling and professional cleaning.
Can I wear a women's newsboy cap in the rain?
In light rain, yes. Wool handles drizzle best thanks to its natural moisture resistance; cotton dampens quickly but dries without damage. Cashmere is the most sensitive — avoid prolonged rain. If the cap gets wet, reshape it while still damp and let it dry at room temperature.
What should I wear with a women's newsboy cap?
Cotton: jeans with a shirt, a striped top, a midi dress. Wool: a long coat with straight trousers, a chunky knit with ankle boots, a leather jacket. Cashmere: a structured coat and a turtleneck. Keep the rest of the outfit simple — the cap does the finishing work.
